Having considered a number of potential global venues, Rio during the carnival was selected as the most exciting and cost effective destination for the 2010 incentive.
Travel planning centred on matching cost-effective solutions to flying guests from a wide variety of locations including Amsterdam, Birmingham, Copenhagen, Dublin, Gothenburg, Helsinki, London, Shannon and Stockholm. Negotiations with airlines favoured Air France who offered a same-fare-for-all solution gathering participants in Paris for onward travel as a single party.
With early morning arrival, guests were at leisure all day at the luxurious Rio Sofitel, alongside Copacabana beach. Early evening featured the cog-train ride up to Corcovado’s Statue of Christ, with stunning pre-sunset panoramic views of the city. Dinner followed in a beachfront seafood restaurant, after drinks at beachside kiosks watching an impromptu street party.
Following late night clubbing. Sunday’s programme started with lunch at a modern Ipanema brasserie, with time to shop at the Hippie Market afterwards. Sunday evening was the highlight, with dinner in a traditional Brazilian “churrascaria” followed by Rio Carnival – best grandstand seats alongside the Grand Avenue where samba schools paraded in enormous floats, outrageous costumes and unbelievable numbers!
Monday continued with leisure until early evening when guests ascended by cable car to Sugar Loaf where, during a private cocktail party, surprise helicopter sightseeing flew guests over the city. Flying from and returning to Sugar Loaf peak made this an awesome experience before a finale gourmet dinner involving private hire of Quadrifoglio, one of Rio’s finest restaurants.
Late check-out the next day with an evening flight home meant that a short stay felt much longer, whilst containing costs and delivering value.
