RasGas in Qatar
The brief was to deliver an inauguration event to an audience of 1,000 guests to celebrate the opening of a new Liquid Natural Gas (LNG) plant in Qatar. The event was attended by His Highness the Emir of Qatar. This was to be followed up by a second event the next day for similar numbers of staff.
The challenge in working in Qatar is that there are no local agents to assist with arrangements, so all suppliers have to be sourced directly or brought in from outside of the country.
For the event, we built a temporary structure that was 120m x 40m in size with a 7m ceiling height. Inside the tent, we had a security area, a welcome ‘Alhambra’ feature with water pools, fountains, water curtains and a 7m x 10m façade. This led through to a raked seating area for 1,000 people. We had a full back projection set with a 15m wide screen and a full ‘Watchout’ presentation. A series of films had been prepared especially for the event and were presented in a ‘news programme’ style format.
A most important element of the inauguration was the Inauguration moment with HH Emir posing for press photographs. These photographs were featured on the front pages of all of the local press.
The event finished with a sit down served lunch in the final section of the tent.
